Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut.
After breakfast drive to Kilimanjaro National Park gate and register. Leave the Park gate and ascend on a cleared ridge trail through the rain forest. The forest is where most of Kilimanjaro’s animals are found. Dinner is served in a communal dining area. Overnight at Mandara hut which consists of a group of wooden A-framed huts in a forest clearing.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After breakfast begin our trek. Our first site is at Maundi Crater where Kibo Crater is visible on a clear day. Upon arrival in the open moorland you are welcomed by Kilimanjaro’s most splendid plants – the giant lobelia and the giant groundsel. After about 6 hours trek, you reach the Horombo hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
After breakfast you now continue your ascent. We will use the recommended lower route which is much easier and it passes the last watering point at 4130m. after hours of trekking arrive at Kibo hut which is situated in the barren Alpine desert. The summit is now a further 1195m up and we will make our final ascent the same night. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Summit Day then down to Horombo Hut
Begin our ascent at about 1 a.m. so that we can be up at Gillman’s Point by sunrise. The initial climb is steep over loose volcanic screen, but there are some well-graded zigzag and a slow but steady pace will have us up to Gillman’s (5,685 m) in about six hours. We will rest there and spend some time enjoying the beautiful sunrise. Those who are still feeling strong can make the three hour round trip from here along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,896 m.) passing close to the spectacular glaciers that still occupy most of the summit area. The descent is fast and we return to Horombo Hut for the night.
Day 5: Horombo Hut – Arusha
After breakfast, we will start with a pleasant moorland walk to Mandara and then a lovely forest walk to the National Park gates to Arusha town. The greenness and lushness of the forest is quite a stunning contrast to the summit day, and it really makes you realize how varied the scenery on Kilimanjaro really is. [5-6 hours walking].
Upon arrival in Arusha you will be transferred to the airport for your return flight. Tis marks the end of the safari.
